Why choose an SJCam over a GoPro?

I am not debating whether the GoPro is a good camera. They Both will satisfy your action camera needs. It is, however, a matter of preference and what exactly you are looking for in a camera for you to choose the right one.

GoPro

While GoPro practically invented the necessity for everyone to have an Action Camera, it is simply out of most people’s budgets, and their usage won’t necessarily equal the price tag. The basic GoPro starts at roughly $150, and they can go as high as $500+ most come with absolutely no accessories which will quickly increase the cost of the camera. That is a lot of moola for a camera that most people will only use once on that snorkeling trip to the Caribbean or just for some cool underwater photos in their backyard swimming pool.

Now take the SJCAM lineup, with the cheapest one coming in as low as roughly $60 and it includes a whole host of mounts and accessories. The Video quality is about the same and in some instances better than the GoPro. Even the cheapest camera comes with an LCD screen on the back, and just like the GoPro, they have a smartphone app to be able to control the camera from your phone.

So, Why choose the SJCAM lineup over a GoPro? To just put it simply, the cost. You get much more camera for the price tag, and they come with all kinds of accessories. Some accessories you might not use but it will be an excellent start and will allow you to start using your camera right away.

To be honest, do I think the GoPro might be better? My answer is, it might be, and it might be a little more polished off and more refined. However, for me, the price difference simply isn’t worth it. I can buy 2-3 SJCAMs for the price of one GoPro and film an entire movie if I want and get practically the same video quality.

What are your thoughts on these cameras, and would you recommend a different one?
