Rail Biking in Korea
So this past weekend, I did something I had wanted to do for a while but never got around to it. What was it, you are wondering? I am sure you can guess by the title of the post but it's rail biking in Korea.
This is not normal biking, as you might have guessed by the name alone. They have built a special car like vehicle that can be used on what I am assuming are old railroad tracks and not new ones. The term biking comes into play because of the fact that you have to pedal.
While Korea has several rail biking places, the one that I went to this past weekend was located at Gimyujeong Station, just outside of Seoul. It was a pretty cool little town and the “Rail Park” was a cool little place to walk around. They had a giant wall that was made to look like book stacks, a little cafe area, a pretty sweet fountain, and an arcade.
Other places recommend you purchase your tickets online before you get there, but since it was overcast the day I went, and it happened to rain during my ride, I was fine with showing up the day of. However, I would still recommend purchasing online because you can get a little discount, and you won’t have to worry about making the long trek from wherever you are located just to be told they are all booked up for the day.
The ride makes for some fantastic views, and even though you are peddling, it is still very easy. They have both two-person and four-person rail bikes.
I took a video of the entire ride, which you can watch below. The whole ride was about an hour but don’t worry, I sped up and edited the video to be about 5 minutes with some nice cheesy music to go along with it.
