American BBQ in Seoul

Being from Texas, I obviously love American BBQ. However, this also happens to be something in short supply while living in Asia. Luckily, Seoul has several places that can satisfy my craving for some good brisket and pulled pork. While Seoul has a few different options, I can currently only recommend two places, and they both happen to be very close to each other in Itaewon.

My personal number one pick is “Manimal Smokehouse.” They have some delicious pulled pork, chicken, brisket, and ribs. A great drink selection to compliment the fantastic food and some equally amazing side items. My favorite side is Mac and Cheese. Honestly, right when I walk into this place, I feel like I am back in Texas, walking into the local BBQ  joint.

My Second pick, and it’s a close race as far as the food goes, is Linus’ BBQ. They have pretty much taken over the Korean Market. Almost every day of the week, this place has a line waiting outside, with many times the wait being over an hour. It is definitely good food; I will give them that. However, my biggest fault is that they almost have a cultural identity crisis when it comes to the atmosphere of the place. They have a full classic-looking bar and Edison lights hanging everywhere, but then have the typical BBQ joint sign outside, and a few of the tables are picnic tables.

Both places have some great food, but I have to give it to Manimal. However, as soon as this place becomes popular, I anticipate just as long of a wait as at Linus’.

Has anyone else ever been to these places or can you recommend another good American-style BBQ joint? I would love to hear it?
